Make The Most Of The Summer

With the schools going back the week after next I keep thinking the summer is almost over.  But in fact we have the whole of September to look forward to, with (hopefully) lots more glorious 'golden hour' light to bask in.

That beautiful apricot light you see early in the morning and just before sun-down is one of the main reasons I started as a natural light children's photographer and it's something I'll never grow tired of.  "But you shoot black and white," I hear you saying!  The quality of light you find first thing and late afternoon is simply stunning whether shooting colour or mono, and it can make all the difference to a set of shots.  The images below are from a family photo shoot I did last month - beautiful back-lighting, lovely catch-lights in the girls' eyes and simple, soft tones.  I could look at these images all day and I hope these beautiful girls will enjoy them for many years to come.

If you'd like to book a natural light family photo shoot before the summer is out then please contact me on 07717 847125 or visit my website at www.sophiehewittphotography.co.uk for more information.

Prom Portrait Promotion

Oh how I wish they had proms back in my day.  I'd have given anything to dress up in a fabulous frock and have my hair and make-up done, but back in the 80s we had to make do with a signed school shirt and a "special" assembly on our last day of term!

So the Warwickshire prom season is just around the corner and I can just imagine the excitement in teen filled households across the region - finding a dress to wear....deciding on a hairstyle...selecting spectacular shoes!  It's a momentous day for any teenager and the end of an era for most families, so capturing the occasion on camera is a lovely idea.

I am offering prom portrait sessions at the special price of £50.  Portrait sessions need to be booked to take place before 13th July 2013 and at a location within a 25 mile radius of Stratford-upon-Avon.

The on location, one-and-a-half hour prom portrait session will take place at your home, or wherever the prom queen or king is getting ready, and will cover everything from prom preparation (hair and make-up shots) to individual, group (i.e. friends) and family photos if so desired.  As with all my photography, the relaxed portraits will be captured using beautiful natural light.

If you are interested in booking a prom portrait session or hearing more about the special prom portrait photography promotion, please do get in touch on 07717 847125 or email me at info@sophiehewittphotography.co.uk.  Places are very limited and will be offered on a first come first served basis.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Springing Back Into Action

So after a few months of being kept busy working on a project for an old colleague I'm back with a vengeance and ready to leap into action, and the timing couldn't be more perfect!  After what has seemed like an eternal winter of miserably cold days and lots of little people with red, runny noses, it's such a welcome sight to see the glow of the low morning sun of recent days.

Today's post features a shoot from back in February which was taken on one of the rare sunny and bright (but nonetheless FREEZING) days we were graced with that month.  The family portrait shoot in Stratford-upon-Avon was fast paced with me trying to capture as many shots in the lovely outdoor winter light before we all got numb toes and noses!  After some speedy shooting we retired into the family's beautiful rural home where we warmed ourselves with fresh coffee before enjoying an hour of capturing the star of the show playing with his beautiful collection of traditional toys.

Delighted with their photographs, the family ordered several triptych frames featuring some of my favourite shots from the shoot, including the Gruffalo book reading sequence which is just priceless!

If you would like me to capture some relaxed, natural light portrait photographs of your family then please do get in touch.  With the promise of warmer weather just around the corner it's the perfect time to plan your family photo shoot.  Don't forget to visit my website to see more of my work as a children's photographer in Warwickshire www.SophieHewittPhotography.co.uk

A Very Special Mum

With Mother's Day just around the corner I am dedicating today's blog to an extra special mum who will be spending tomorrow away from her family after being in hospital this week.

I met Emma at a party of a mutual friend and, as we stood watching our toddlers jiggling around on a bouncy castle, we started to chat away.  Within minutes it felt like we'd known each other for ages and we proceeded to spend the afternoon nattering and putting the world to rights.  A couple of days later Emma phoned to ask if I would photograph her and her beautiful daughter.  Emma had been poorly several months earlier and having recovered she wanted a series of natural images of her with her daughter having fun and being carefree.

We planned our on-location portrait shoot to take place at the wonderful Walton Hall in Warwickshire. The staff kindly gave us access to the grounds which are littered with the type of beautiful backdrops I can't get enough of...tree-lined avenues, a swan filled river and stunning architecture...oh, the choice!

The low but clear light on the morning of our mother and daughter portrait shoot was simply stunning, but with temperatures dropping to red nose levels we had to work quickly!  We had great fun capturing a real variety of beautiful natural light portrait shots before retreating into the warmth of the fireside restaurant where we drank comforting hot chocolates.

I am delighted with this series of natural light mum and daughter portrait photos and I hope you enjoy them too.  Emma chose to have a selection of the shots presented in triptych frames which tell a wonderful story that I'm sure she and her daughter will cherish for years to come.  I send her all my love for a speedy recovery from her hospital treatment this week and extra special thoughts tomorrow for Mother's Day.  A very special mum indeed.

If you would like me to capture photographs like these of you and your family please visit my website at www.SophieHewittPhotography.co.uk to see more of my work or give me a call on 07717 847125.

Happy Mothers Day for tomorrow to all the exceptional mums out there!
