On-Location Children's Photography in London

A personal post today featuring some images from my family's recent trip to London's fabulous Natural History Museum.  My five-year-old son has long been obsessed with dinosaurs, so during the Easter break we decided it was high time we made the journey to show him the museum's dinosaur gallery.

As a child I desperately wanted to be an archaeologist - I had a fossil cabinet in my bedroom and one of my favourite TV programmes was Life On Earth (yes, everyone at school laughed at me too!).  Living in Kent at the time meant that London was practically on our doorstep and the Natural History Museum was a regular haunt.  It has been well over 25 years since I last stepped foot inside the magnificent building, but as soon as we walked over the threshold last week it felt as if nothing had changed at all...in a good way.

'Dippy' the incredible Diplodocus still takes centre stage in the grand hall and the dinosaur gallery remains as eery as ever.  Some modernisation in the shape of a rather realistic animatronic T-Rex and some nasty looking Raptors made for lots of squeals of joy from my boys, and the hands-on, interactive displays were a welcome addition to keep the little ones occupied.

We made our way around the museum, checking out the giant blue whale (I'm sure it's grown), the earthquake room and the dazzling diamond displays (I'm rather more interested in sparkly things than fossils these days!).  The day ended with a trip to the gift shop where history repeated itself yet again, with my son investing his pocket money in a 'palaeontologist and dino skeleton' set, and a lump of sparkly fools gold which is now safely housed in the Playmobil pirate ship treasure chest!

I can highly recommend the museum for a family day out.  Amazingly it's free to get in and children are given an 'Explorer' pack filled with colouring pencils, a safari hat, binoculars and a map - now that definitely didn't happen back in the day.  I hope you enjoy the following pictures from our day out.

Please visit the Sophie Hewitt Photography website to see more examples of my black and white children's photography.  As a children's photographer in Stratford-Upon-Avon but shooting on location children's portrait photography throughout Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands, I am available to capture your family's fun day out.  I'd love to join you on your next adventure!  Do get in touch.

Children's Photography in Stratford-Upon-Avon

In true British style, the weather during the Easter break was not the kindest.  I'm not sure why we expect anything other than rain during the April showers season, but one does always hope for just a little bank holiday sunshine!  I was therefore very lucky that on the day of my shoot with sisters Ella and Poppy, the sun decided to put in an appearance.

Donning our wellies we headed into Warwickshire's beautiful Welcombe Hills where the girls spent a glorious morning exploring the lush woods and making dens.  Here's a sneak peek of a few of the images from this lovely children's portrait session.  I'll post more on the blog once I've cleared the backlog of editing!

Family and Children's Photographer, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands

Apologies that the blog has been a little quiet for the past two weeks, but in between client shoots and family life I have been busy upgrading (and mastering) some new editing software.

There are always so many new techniques and technical gizmos being launched in the world of photography and I usually turn a blind eye to the majority of them, favouring instead to stick to my ethos of always taking a simplistic and stripped back approach to children's portrait photography.  However, I decided it was high time to upgrade my suite of editing tools and I'm delighted with the capabilities of the new programme.

Don't worry, you won't suddenly find over-airbrushing or lurid colour tweaks in my work - my family and children's photography will remain as natural, simple and truthful as it has always been.  Below are a couple of test images as proof!

To see more of my work as a children's photographer shooting on location portrait photography in Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands, please visit my website at http://www.sophiehewittphotography.co.uk or feel free to get in touch on 07717 847125.  See the next blog post below for details of my current Easter portrait photography offer.

Newborn Photography - Thank You Cards

You may remember the photographs of Teddy, whose newborn portrait session in Leamington Spa I featured on the blog a couple of weeks ago.  Today I thought I'd share the lovely bespoke 'Thank You' cards I've just had made for Teddy's parents, who wanted something personal to send out to their friends and family.

Featuring images from Teddy's baby photo shoot at home, the cards are printed on high quality paper and have been peronalised further with Teddy's name and date of birth printed on the reverse.

I'm delighted with the finished product and I'm sure everyone who receives their thank you card in the post over the coming weeks will be too!

Bespoke greetings cards using images from a newborn photography shoot or a family portrait photo session can be printed as birth announcements, thank you cards, birthday cards and Christmas cards...in fact just about whatever you want.
