First Birthday Day Out - Children's Photography in Stratford-upon-Avon

Today's images are from a wonderful family photo shoot in Stratford-upon-Avon taken right at the end of May when we had an amazing (but oh so short) spell of hot weather.  Little Jasper was celebrating his first birthday with a trip to Hatton Country Farm and I was invited along to capture some memories of his very special day.

We started our on-location portrait shoot early to avoid the harsh midday sun, but by 10am the heat was already getting intense.  Mum Bryony produced a selection of hats to keep Jasper well shaded, and at that point we selected the straw trilby which just seemed to mirror Jasper's happy-go-lucky personality perfectly.  He really was the most laid back, happy one year old I've had the pleasure of photographing - a real little treasure!

Jasper spent the morning playing on the swings, exploring the farm trails (where he did a rather good job of milking the pretend cow!), and playing with mum Bryony and dad Max.  The cool water runs, where Jasper enjoyed panning for fools gold, provided the type of superb entertainment and backdrop that every on location children's photographer loves.

I hope you enjoy looking through these on location children's portrait photographs as much as I did creating them.  To see more of my work as a family photographer and children's photographer in Warwickshire and beyond, please visit my website at www.sophiehewittphotography.co.uk

Family Photo Shoot On Location in Stratford-upon-Avon

A busy half term and post-shoot edits have resulted in a very neglected blog recently!  On the positive side, the spring/summer rush for children's portrait photography bookings has resulted in some lovely images and I have plenty of material to share over the coming weeks.  Today I'll start with an absolute favourite from last month...

This idyllic family photo shoot in Stratford-upon-Avon features Alix, Ben and their beautiful daughters Georgia and Lissie...plus a few of the family's pet sheep.  I had heard a lot about Alix and the innovative Make A Mess toddler groups she has founded, so I had a good feeling that our family portrait session would be a fun packed morning!

We started the family portrait shoot with Georgia showcasing her new found bike riding skills as little sister Lissie looked on in awe.  Georgia and dad Ben had cracked the tricky no stabilisers manoeuvre the day before our shoot and it was lovely to capture such a momentous occasion.

After some time spent amongst the beautiful bluebells in the gardens we moved on to meeting the family's herd of wonderfully woolly sheep.  Both Ben and Alix come from a long line of farming families and their passion for continuing the tradition with their own family was clear to see.  The girls took delight in showing me how they prepare the sheep feed and then, donning wellies, they led me to the field where they called over the sheep and got right into the thick of the hungry flock.  Just wonderful!

When the drizzle set in we moved indoors where the girls spent time drawing and colouring, and getting thoroughly engrossed in a spot of Alix's signature messy play.  Over a cup of coffee and a slice of cake Alix told me about her business and her exciting franchise expansion plans (check out her website for more information www.make-a-mess.co.uk).

I am delighted with the images from this most memorable shoot.  My particular favourite is the final shot of Lissie shuffling into the kitchen wearing dad Ben's shoes (a gold dust moment!).  Should she choose to follow in her dad's footsteps in the future and carry on the family's tradition of farming I'm sure this image will take on a whole new meaning.

I hope you enjoy this set of children's photography in Stratford-upon-Avon.  To see further examples of my work as a children's photographer in Warwickshire, the West Midlands and beyond, please visit my website at www.sophiehewittphotography.co.uk

My Children's Photography & Baby Portraits Featured on The Uber Stylish 'Belle Bebes' Blog

I am delighted this morning to have my photography featured again on the fab Belle Bebes blog site.  I discovered this uber gorgeous baby blog several months back when hunting around for some unusual newborn gifts and I've since become addicted to reading every super stylish post that the authors, Debbie and Verity, publish.

You may remember that the blog featured some of my work in a Mothers Day special feature back in March and it was then that I was invited by Debbie and Verity to take part in their 'Belle Bebes asks...' interview feature.  I'm delighted with their finished article and if you want to find out a little more about me, the person behind the camera lens, then simply click here to read my interview about being a children's photographer in Stratford Upon Avon and beyond.

I am so looking forward to capturing many more children's portraits , baby portraits and family portraits  this summer, just like the images featured in the Belle Bebes blog feature.  I am already taking bookings for the August school holidays, but I have a few weekend dates left in June and July.

If you would like to see more of my work as a children's photographer in Warwickshire and beyond, or would like to book an on location portrait shoot in Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands, then please check out my website http://www.sophiehewittphotography.co.uk/ or simply get in touch

Thanks for stopping by!

On-Location Children's Photography in London

A personal post today featuring some images from my family's recent trip to London's fabulous Natural History Museum.  My five-year-old son has long been obsessed with dinosaurs, so during the Easter break we decided it was high time we made the journey to show him the museum's dinosaur gallery.

As a child I desperately wanted to be an archaeologist - I had a fossil cabinet in my bedroom and one of my favourite TV programmes was Life On Earth (yes, everyone at school laughed at me too!).  Living in Kent at the time meant that London was practically on our doorstep and the Natural History Museum was a regular haunt.  It has been well over 25 years since I last stepped foot inside the magnificent building, but as soon as we walked over the threshold last week it felt as if nothing had changed at all...in a good way.

'Dippy' the incredible Diplodocus still takes centre stage in the grand hall and the dinosaur gallery remains as eery as ever.  Some modernisation in the shape of a rather realistic animatronic T-Rex and some nasty looking Raptors made for lots of squeals of joy from my boys, and the hands-on, interactive displays were a welcome addition to keep the little ones occupied.

We made our way around the museum, checking out the giant blue whale (I'm sure it's grown), the earthquake room and the dazzling diamond displays (I'm rather more interested in sparkly things than fossils these days!).  The day ended with a trip to the gift shop where history repeated itself yet again, with my son investing his pocket money in a 'palaeontologist and dino skeleton' set, and a lump of sparkly fools gold which is now safely housed in the Playmobil pirate ship treasure chest!

I can highly recommend the museum for a family day out.  Amazingly it's free to get in and children are given an 'Explorer' pack filled with colouring pencils, a safari hat, binoculars and a map - now that definitely didn't happen back in the day.  I hope you enjoy the following pictures from our day out.

Please visit the Sophie Hewitt Photography website to see more examples of my black and white children's photography.  As a children's photographer in Stratford-Upon-Avon but shooting on location children's portrait photography throughout Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands, I am available to capture your family's fun day out.  I'd love to join you on your next adventure!  Do get in touch.
